Pool design style - Wet Edge
This outstanding display pool incorporates some of the latest innovations in design. It is a substantial 12 by 7.5 metre pool
that is an invitation to relaxed and gracious living and yet retains a sense of harmony with its immediate surroundings.

The design of the pool is free form, in order to create a natural swimming hole effect. The shape is very aesthetically pleasing
employing both positive and negative curvature and incorporating a small garden bed that juts out into the pool. The coping is
brick paving around the entire pool. The paving has been extended so as to form a generous entertainment area between the
pool and the house. A large portion of this area is given shade protection by a permanent vinyl sail.

The interior of the pool is a propriety blend of imported materials including pebble, creating a unique finish. Along the waterline,
Italian glass tiles which change colour in differing light conditions have been employed. The entry to the pool is via a
substantial shallow submerged ledge which runs along one side of the pool and gradually increases in depth from 100mm to
500mm. This removes the need for pool steps. There is also a generous swimout at the deep end of the pool.

This creates the illusion that this body of water is in fact a large pond at the top of a waterfall. Water does in fact run over the
full length spillway and drop two and a half metres into a large balance tank below and out of sight of those in the pool. The
spillway itself features a capping of the same Italian glass tiles used along the waterline, which is a continuation of an elegant
design statement. The visual impact of the wet edge system lies in the lack of pool wall, coping or fencing. The eye is drawn
immediately to the view just beyond the spillway, in this case the bushland.

Out of site from the house and the pool, the wet edge wall facing the bushland is finished in gold pebble, so as to make it
blend with the sandstone retaining wall. There is a garden bed planted with native shrubs between the retaining wall and the
balance tank. This garden pays tribute not only to the nearby bush, but also to the garden beds that are located near the deep
end of the pool in the midst of the paving. The gutter on the balance tank is capped by brick paving as well.

The pool is solar heated and equipped with a full in floor cleaning system. Two Badu Stream swim jets driven by two three
phase four horsepower pumps are provided for exercise or just plain fun. There are three underwater lights instead of the usual
one and the pool is also equipped with sensor chlorinator and pH controller. The pool is secured in accordance with the
Swimming Pool Act, in part by th eheight of the wet edge system above the ground.

This magnificent pool is contemporary in style and offers great possibilities, including that of greater use out of season. The
combination of glass tile and brick paving, the unique pebble mix and the large sail is a unique one that will not date quickly.
The illusion of proximity to the nearby bushland created by the long wet edge spillway, coupled with the attractive lines of the
pool bring a sense of naturalism to the entire design and demonstrate how a modern look and sensitivity to the native
environment can coexist in the one place.

An outstanding design feature is the
inclusion of a wet edge system
along the entire length of the pool
nearest the native bush reserve.
