Sunrise Pools - Award Winning Excellence
Style: Traditional/Geometrical
Size: 12 metre
Coping: Terracotta Tiles
This formal 12 metre salt water pool is situated on a semi rural 5 acre property. The design follows the traditional form for
a domestic pool, but with some interesting variations and with creative use of materials. The pool is finished with an
imported white pebble interior and dark blue waterline tiles. The pool coping is of terracotta tiles and these have been
extended around the entire pool and form a generous entertaining area on the side nearest to the house. At the deep
end of the pool, a tallow wood deck extends out from the tiled areas, providing for additional space, as the ground level is
about 1.5 metres below the level of the pool at this point.

The retaining walls that adjoin the entertainment area, including the steps that give access to the house, are formed from
reinforced concrete and were poured at the same time as the pool. They have been cement rendered and painted in
colours complimentary to the house and to the terracotta tiles. Behind the wall at the shallow end of the pool a native
garden featuring outcrops of bush rock has been situated. The use of native shrubs has been extended along the side of
the terracotta tiles away from the house. These plants form a part of the new landscape created by using the fill from the
excavation to form a batter on the far side of the pool.

The pool is equipped with two skimmer boxes and sand filtration which has been cleverly concealed along with all the
pumping equipment in a recess built into the retaining wall at the shallow end. The house has also been secured to
comply with the fencing act.

This elegant pool is a bold and colourful design statement. The long axis of the pool is parallel to the long axis of the
house and this arrangement enhances the visual impact of the pool. The earthy terracotta colours are a brilliant contrast
with the blue of the pool itself and the whole area is also in contrast with the adjacent deep greens of the native
bushland. The effect is to immediately draw the eye to the pool and to its spacious entertainment area, where the
possibilities for luxurious relaxation seem endless.
