This amazing 9 by 4.5 metre salt water pool has been constructed in a free form shape that creates a natural swimming
hole effect. The shape combines both positive and negative curvature and incorporates a circular spa that juts out into the pool. The pool has been constructed so as to make the most of a restricted space, and has been
placed behind and above the house, in order to capitalize on distant water views.
The pool is finished in gold pebble. The coping is South Australian Wistow stone around the entire pool. Wistow stone
has the appearance of slate but has more durability.
The pool design features the inclusion of a negative wet edge system along the entire curved length of the pool facing the
house. Water runs over the stone spillway and drops 1.2 metres into a large balanced gutter. The view from the house is of the overflow itself, which is finished in the same Wistow stone as the pool coping to form a stone feature wall over which a waterfall has been created. The gutter is finished in gold pebble with a stone coping.
The effect of the wet edge system in this pool has been to make the pool seem more expansive to the occupants, but
also to create an attractive water feature in the back yard. The pool is equipped with sand filtration and solar heating in order to offer maximum use throughout the year.
This pool also features a circular spa that is elevated 400mm above the pool waterline. It is finished in gold pebble and
has Wistow stone coping to match that of the pool. The spa facing is also of Wistow stone, as are the steps leading up to it. Equipped with gas heating, air blower and booster pump, driving 6 spa jets instead of the usual 4, this spa provides a higher degree of comfort and water massage to the occupants.
Entry to the pool is gained adjacent to the spa and there is a generous ledge at the deep end of the pool, hidden under
the shade of the luxurious garden.
Set amongst ferns and Australian native plants, this pool seems perfectly in place. In contrast to the distant views of the
harbour it appears as a safe bushland haven in the midst of suburbia. |
